Just taking a moment to share this journey of learning at Kidditech. (shared with permission from family) Over the past month Henry has been very keen on building and although he struggled a little with strength and confidence when he began building, he has come so far. Watching his mates build, asking for help, listening to building suggestions and most of all trying and not giving up. He really has put in the mahi.

Henry decided he wanted to make an excavator, he put his safety gear on, found all the parts he needed and set to work. Kaiako offered a few suggestions along the way, some he loved, some not so much. He persisted and asked his friends for help when he got stuck. He had to think about the parts an excavator needed and which wood pieces he could use to replicate them in his build. Some techniques for attaching parts failed and he had to try something different. Henry came away with this epic build. He was so proud of himself and enjoyed showing all his friends how the moving parts worked and explaining how he built it. Tips to help children with their creative building:

• Have a range of tools available e.g. hammers, screwdrivers, clamps and a drill
• Different sized nails and screws
• Measuring tools for numeracy e.g. tape measures, pencils & rulers
• Loose parts for creativity e.g., plywood shapes, wheels, wood in a variety of shapes and sizes.
• Safety gear, vests, safety glasses and earmuffs
